Fred Otto Becker, son of Otto and Ellen H. (Filsinger) Becker was born on August 16, 1929, on the family farm near Cedar Rapids, NE. He was baptized on September 15, 1929, and later confirmed on June 13, 1943 at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Albion, NE by J.H. Beckmann. Fred attended school at the Red School House until the 8 th grade, then went to high school at Albion Public School graduating with the class of 1946.
On October 10, 1951, Fred enlisted in the United States Army and later transferred to the Army Reserve. He was honorably discharged on October 9, 1959, after serving in Austria as a medic. Following his discharge, he came home and helped his father on the farm, and attended Ag School in Spalding, NE. Along the way he was introduced to Dorothey Marie Carr. After several years of courtship, the couple was married on July 30, 1961, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE by Rev. C.E. Schaff. To this union four daughters were born: Kathy, Charlene, Doreen, and Denise. Fred was employed at the Farmer's Coop until retiring in 1992. Fred also helped area farmers and raised cattle.
Fred was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Albion, NE. His biggest enjoyment was tinkering with his tools, he loved to take things apart and put them back together, sometimes he didn't put all the parts back, but would still make things work. He also enjoyed going for drives in the country with "his girls" and hitting the hills just right to make it fun for them. While on road trips in the summer, he would hit all of the watermelon trucks in the area and find the best ones. He also loved to go to auctions and furnish his daughters homes with the treasures he found. But by far the most important thing in his life were his wife, daughters, and their families.
Fred is survived by his wife of 60 years Dorothey of Albion, NE; four daughters: Kathryn (Rodney) Lentz of Hartington, NE; Charlene (Dennis) Wilson of Columbus, NE: Doreen (Albert) Bader of Albion, NE; Denise (Jon) Hall of Albion, NE; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
