Betty Schuele passed away peacefully on June 13, 2022 in Westminster, CO after battling dementia with all of her might. Born in the Greeley County Nebraska area, Betty lived in central Nebraska all but her last few years and was a proud Cornhusker, and champion of Cedar Rapids, NE. She truly loved being part of the community and was involved in many groups and organizations over the years. Always willing to help, she loved being part of St Anthony's Catholic Church, enjoyed the annual school alumni gatherings, and treasured her award as a Cedar Rapids Citizen of the Year many years ago.
Betty was united in marriage to Tom C Schuele,("her Tom") in 1953, and they spent their lives together as partners in raising a family, farming, and as best friends until his sudden death in 1997. After his death she moved into her home in Cedar Rapids from the farm and kept herself busy with baking, church, her flowers, garden club, bowling, attending local school sports games and events, and much enjoyed trips with her friends for adventures (that more than occasionally included a casino stop or two)...., not necessarily in that order of priority or preference. She was proud of her years as bookkeeper at Kayton Implements and as a clerk at Bethscheider's Market, but her favorite positions in life would be as wife to Tom, mother to her children, and especially doting grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved spoiling them with the best of sugary treats from Grandma Betty, whether their parents approved or not! Her cooking/baking was legendary, and she was proud of that for sure.
Betty will be remembered for her kindness, willingness to pitch in to help whenever needed, and quick wit by all of her family and friends. She was small but mighty, and one of a kind!
Preceded in death by her husband, Thomas C Schuele, her parents, Anton and Mary Zentner, and siblings Mary Catherine Ringlein, Eulalah Herek, John Zentner and Margarette Kment.
She is survived by her children: Mary Patton (J Michael) of Wichita, KS, Tom (Beverly) of Cedar Rapids, NE, Margaret Dechant (Todd) of Wichita, KS and Joe (Cynthia) Schuele of Westminster, CO. Grandchildren Brian Schuele (Christine), Ryan Patton (Jackie), Katie Patton, Brent Schuele (Chelsea), Maureen Chavez (Paul), and Kara Patton. Great grandchildren: Ella, Lucy and Thomas Schuele, Ben and Henry Schuele, Johnny and Avery Patton, and Ryan Chavez
Betty's family would like to thank her extended family, her friends (many of them life-long) and her care givers in Cedar Rapids and in Colorado for their care and concern for her. You were all very special to her.
