Elizabeth "Liz" A. Hunt, 92, of Albion, NE passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society, Albion, NE.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at the United Methodist Church, Albion, NE with Rev. Lynde Linde officiating. Inurnment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion, NE. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial are suggested to the Albion United Methodist Church and the Good Samaritan Society in Albion, NE.
Levander Funeral Home of Albion is in charge of arrangements.
Elizabeth "Liz" A. Hunt, daughter of Arthur and Helen M (Gilmer) Arbuthnot was born January 10, 1933, in Omaha, NE. She grew up on the family farm five miles east of Cedar Rapids, NE. Liz started school at District #50 where she received her education until the 8th grade. She then attended Albion High School and graduated with the class of 1950.
On September 1, 1956, Liz married the love of her life, Neal R. Hunt at the United Methodist Church in Albion, NE. The couple made their home in Albion, NE. Liz worked at various businesses in Albion between 1950 and 1960, doing bookkeeping and steno duties. She also assisted Neal with his seed business. Liz enjoyed traveling to many locations, including Spain and the United Kingdom with Neal. In February of 1960 she started as a cashier with Consumers Public Power District, the predecessor company of Loup Power District. Liz retired on December 31, 1996, after nearly 37 years.
While growing up on the farm, Liz was very active in 4-H work, exhibiting beef animals at the Boone County Fair and the Ak-Sar-Ben Livestock Show. She enjoyed sewing, homemaking, cooking, baking, gardening, and food preservation projects were exhibiting at the Boone County fair and Nebraska State Fair, winning many ribbons and awards. Liz was the Boone County 4-H Queen in 1950. She served on the County 4-H Council for several years and was a sponsor for the Junior Leaders trip to the Citizenship Conference in Washington, D.C.
Liz was a member of the Albion United Methodist Church, receiving 50-year membership pin in 2003. She served on various church-related committees and the Administrative Council. Liz was a member of the UMW, holding many offices in Circle and Unit.
Liz was very involved in her community. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 92 years having been enrolled shortly after birth. She held various offices and served on the Flag Committee for several years, helping place flags on the veteran's graves for Memorial Day weekend. Liz was the recipient of the "Living Auxiliary Member" flag in 2011. She was also a member of the U.S. Arbuthnot Family Association, serving as the President for one term and hosting the bi-annual Gathering in Omaha, NE in October of 2000. She also attended the Worldwide Arbuthnot Gathering in Edsel, Scotland in September 1992. Liz served as the secretary of the Albion Cemetery Association, mailing the annual letter and recording the donations for twelve years. Liz was a member of the Boone County Relay for Life committee for fifteen years, raising funds for the American Cancer Society. On top of everything else she was a board member of the Boone County Area Foundation for one term.
Liz is survived by her sister: Caroline Burtt of Penn Valley, CA; sister-in-law: Bernice Hunt of Cedar Rapids, NE; niece: Laura (Tim) Frey of Cedar Rapids, NE; nephew: Ralph (Judy) Hunt of Albion, NE; one great-niece; four great-nephews; four great-great nephews; along with a host of neighbors and friends plus the extended Hunt – Karman family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Neal; brothers-in-law: Stuart Burtt and Paul Hunt; and half-brother: Tracy Arbuthnot.
