Eileen B. Bauer, 99 of Spalding, NE, joined her family and our Lord on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society in Albion, NE.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 17, 2023, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding, NE with Fr. Antony Thekkekara officiating. Interment will follow at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the church with a 7:00 p.m. wake service.
Levander Funeral Home of Spalding, NE is in charge of arrangements.
Eileen Barbara Bauer, daughter of Peter and Frederica (Glaser) Langer, was born January 19, 1924 at Pierz, MN. She attended St. Joseph's school in Pierz, MN until third grade when her family moved to a farm three miles west of Spalding, NE. She then attended school at District 10 in Greeley County and graduated from Spalding Academy in 1941. After Eileen graduated, she worked in Omaha, then returned to Spalding to teach in the area rural schools for 3 years. During WWII she worked at the Ammunitions Plant in Grand Island.
On December 30, 1946, Eileen was united in marriage to Richard Bauer at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Spalding, NE. Rich and Eileen farmed for 15 years southeast of Spalding. They bought Illian's Hardware Store in 1963 and moved to town. Eileen worked in the family store until 1973, when they closed Bauer Hardware. She then worked part-time for many years and helped her sister and brother-in-law at Smitty's Bar. She was an extraordinary homemaker, making her home beautiful, organized, and most importantly welcoming to all family and friends. Eileen took pride in her home and was excellent at interior decorating, she was also a wonderful cook. She was full of care and compassion for all her grandchildren and family, she was always very interested in what was happening in everyone's life.
Eileen was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding and St. Anne's Altar Society. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Eileen is survived by her children: Tom (Sandra) of Highland Village, TX; Tim (Linda) of Minden, NE; Peg (Don) Kahl of Bartlett, NE; Bill (Rita) of Columbus, NE; Diane (Mark) Dvorak of St. Paul, NE: daughter-in-law Joetta Bauer of Andover, KS; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Eva Langer and Leila Bauer; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Richard Bauer; son Peter Bauer; infant sister Evelyn; infant brother Joseph; sister Leona Schmidt; brothers: Ambrose and Melvin Langer.
