Donald E. Swett, 79 of Albion, NE passed away Monday, May 31, 2021 at his home.
At Don's request, he will be cremated and no services will be held a this time.
Levander Funeral Home in Albion, NE is in charge of arrangements.
Donald Eugene Swett, son of Berdette and Hilda (Rieck) Swett, was born July 3, 1941 at Spalding, NE. He attended Spalding Public School, and then moved with his family to Woodland, WA before his senior year of high school. He graduated from Woodland High School in 1959. Following graduation Donald started farming.
On December 29, 1962, Don married Catherine Elise Thomas at the Presbyterian Church in Woodland, WA. Don was drafted for the Vietnam War. He entered the United States Army on January 18, 1966, and was stationed in Louisiana before being deployed to Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on January 17, 1968. When Don returned from Vietnam, they made their home in Woodland, WA where they were blessed with four children: Don, Elisa, Scott and Tim. Don owned and operated a dairy farm for a number of years before working for Ben A. Thomas, a logging company as a truck driver. He then worked for Frito-Lay company for several years, before retiring in 2004.
On February 28, 2006, Don married Mary Beth (Jones) Richardson at Reno, NV. They moved to Albion, NE where Don helped local farmers Luke Rankin and Jay Wlaschin, and later managed the Timeout Bar in Albion, until his health would no longer allow him to do so.
Don was a people person and loved spending time with family and friends, and often cooked for them. He liked dogs and always had one or more. His favorite pastime was road-tripping to the sandhills of Nebraska and BS'ing with people.
He is survived by his four children: Don (Kathryn) Swett II of Vancouver, WA; Elisa Swett (Andre White) of Woodland, WA; Scott (Chantel) Swett of Woodland, WA; Tim (Emily) Swett of Kalama, WA; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister Mary Catherine (Carl) Mullen of Battleground, WA; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mary Beth in 2015; Catherine Swett, the mother of his children in 2003; and one brother Bert Swett.
