Donald C. Helm

Donald C. Helm, 86, formerly of Newman Grove, NE, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Society in Albion, NE.

A Graveside Service will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2026, at Trinity West Cemetery, Newman Grove, NE with Ryan Smith officiating.

Levander Funeral Home of Albion, NE is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Carl Helm, the son of Carl J. and LaVerna (Jensen) Helm, was born on January 24, 1940 in Newman Grove, NE. Donald was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove. Donald later moved with his family to California and graduated from Poly Tech High School in Long Beach. Following high school, Donald entered the United States National Guard.

During his life, Donald owned a barbershop in Long Beach. He later worked for many years as a custodian for Los Angeles County School District. Following his retirement, Donald followed his desire of returning to Newman Grove. Throughout his life, Donald enjoyed gardening, cooking, and loved animals. He was a humble and quiet man who was more than just an uncle to his family. He loved and supported his family in more ways than can be stated.

Donald is survived by his sister: Estella Doling of Albion, NE; nieces and nephews: Debbie (Jon) Mazurek of Garden Grove, CA; LaVerna (Curtis) Smith of Stromsburg, NE; Gerald (Dana) Clubb II of Trenton, IL; Tamara (Chad) Darah of Buena Park, CA; Robert (Julie) Ross II of Albion, NE; 16 great-nieces and nephews; and 19 great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; aunt: Estella Jensen; and great-niece: Kaitlyn Smith.
