Donald Lester Anding

Donald L. Anding, 76, of Albion, NE, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2019, at his home near Albion, NE.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 29, 2019 at Immanuel-Zion Lutheran Church (South Branch) rural Albion, NE with Rev. Becky Beckmann and Kurt Kinney officiating. Interment will follow at South Branch Cemetery, Albion, NE with military rites will be conducted by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard, American Legion Post #162 and VFW Post #736 of Albion, NE and the American Legion Riders. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion, NE.

Donald Lester Anding, the son of Lester Charles and Florence LaVina (Stalker) Anding, was born on January 28, 1943 at Norfolk, NE. Don was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel-Zion Lutheran Church. He attended country school at District 34 and graduated from Albion High School with the class of 1961. Following his graduation, Don worked at the local alfalfa mill.

On May 8, 1963, Don was inducted into the United States Navy. He was stationed at China Lake, CA, and it was there that he met his future wife, Ellie Ellene Eliasen. The couple were married on October 17, 1965 at Meeker, CO. Following their wedding, the couple lived at China Lake until Don's honorable discharge on May 5, 1967. The couple then made their home on a farm northeast of Albion where Don farmed and raised hogs and cattle. In the late 1970's, he started a trucking company with his brother. He loved trucking and was well known for his distinguished Kenworths.

Don was a member of Immanuel-Zion Lutheran Church and was also a member of the Rae Valley Heritage Association. Don could fix just about anything and also enjoyed restoring old tractors. He loved Border Collie dogs, gardening, cooking pancakes and pies, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Don is survived by his wife Ellie Anding of Albion, NE; children: Becky Aldaba, Chad (Gina) Anding, and Jill (Scott Whaley) Anding all of Albion, NE; five grandchildren: Amanda Aldaba, Clay, Skyler, Wyatt, and Briggs Anding all of Albion, NE; brother: Larry (Judy) Anding of Columbus, NE; two sisters: Shirley (Lyle) Bardlsey and Jeannie Groothuis all of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law: Margaret Anding of Norfolk, NE; as well as nieces, nephews and his beloved dog: Razzy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Scott Anding; brother: Loren Anding; and brother-in-law: Elmer Groothuis.
