Dick J. Stromp, 86, of Spalding, NE, died Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at his home near Spalding, NE.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at St. Michael's Church in Spalding, NE with Fr. Lawrence Vadakkan officiating. Interment will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church with a 7:00 p.m. wake service.

Richard "Dick" Joseph Stromp, son of George and Agnes (Ballweg) Stromp, was born December 25, 1938, in Spalding, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding, NE. Dick was a polio survivor. He would travel by train to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for treatments. He attended grade school in the country before attending Spalding Academy and graduated with the class of 1956.
On March 12, 1985, Dick was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Criss at Las Vegas, NV. From this union, Dick gained five children and was later blessed with an additional son. Dick wore many hats. He was a farmer, owned S & S Truck with his brother Jerry, and Buda's New and Used store. Along with Mary, he also owned the bar in Spalding called Dick and Mares now called the Bottoms's Up.
Dick was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He enjoyed collecting stuff including coins, getting a good bargain, debating and arguing with people, road tripping to the casinos, smoking his cigarettes, and hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed checking on the neighbors with the dogs.
Dick is survived by his beloved dog Windsor and his six children: Ricky Stromp of Spalding, NE; Connie Bennett of Chatsworth, CA; Deb (Bob) Abramson of Central City, NE; Angie (Tom) Langer of Spalding, NE; Jeff (Carey) Criss of Spalding, NE; Mellissa (Pat) Bloom of Spalding, NE; 10 grandchildren: Jessica (Tyler) Clason; Brianna (Jeremy) Kruper; Justin (Karlie) Criss; Paige Schilousky; Cortney (Fiancé Josh Vanleer) Criss; Branden Bennett; Miranda and Marissa Langer; Aven and Addyson Bloom; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Heidi Stromp of Omaha, NE; Delores "Toots" Stueben of Grand Island, NE; Veronica Mostek of Columbus, NE; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Mary Stromp in 2023; siblings: Jerry Stromp; Jim (Dorothy) Stromp; Rosemary (Glen) Shirley; Paul Stromp; brothers-in-law: Glenn Stueben; Joe Mostek; Ed (Linda) Long; and sister-in-law: Virginia (Bud) Patzel.
