David D. Figgner, 86 of Albion, NE, passed away Friday, September 27, 2024, at Boone County Health Center, Albion, NE.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Albion, NE with Fr. Matt Gutowski and Deacon James Schindel officiating. Interment will follow at Dennison Cemetery, rural Albion, NE with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post 162 and VFW Post 736 of Albion, NE and the Army Funeral Honor Guard. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at the church with a 7:00 p.m. wake service.
Levander Funeral Home of Albion, NE is in charge of arrangements.
David Dean Figgner, son of Henry and Helen "Ruby" (Rumery) Figgner, was born February 16, 1938, in Clarkson, NE. He attended Clarkson grade school and high school before the family moved to Primrose where he graduated in 1956. On January 6, 1959, David joined the US Army where he honorably served until his early discharge on December 23, 1960. He came home early and proposed on Christmas Day to the love of his life, Joyce Dozler
On May 15, 1961, David was united in marriage to his sweetheart, Joyce F. Dozler at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Albion, NE. David was blessed with three wonderful children. The couple lived on the Thome place west of Albion until 1967. They then bought the current farm west of Albion where they continued to raise their family.
David was a simple farming man. He loved his family, loved to eat, and loved working the land. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren show pigs, Big Joe Polka shows, and dancing with his wife. Back in his younger years, Dave was an All Star Basketball player and held the GRC point record up until recent years. David loved going for rides with his son and grandson DA on Sundays listening to polkas. One of his proudest moments was when he gave his 1486 International tractor to his grandson to pull, and watching him at tractor pulls.
David is survived by his two daughters: Carleen (Steve) Braband of Elkhorn, NE; Jodeen (Mike) Meenderink of Hooper, UT; son: David H. (Audrey) Figgner of Primrose, NE; two grandchildren: Lyndsey and David A. Figgner III both of Primrose, NE; sister Joan Schalk of Cedar Rapids, NE; two sisters-in-law: Mary Dozler of Albion, NE; Janice Figgner of Albion, NE; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Joyce Figgner; three brothers: Richard Figgner; Donald H. (Lucille) Figgner; and Eugene (Jerane) Figgner; three brothers-in-law: Don (Ella Mae) Dozler; LeRoy Dozler; Robert Schalk; and niece: Kris Dozler.
