Clifford Calvin Olson

Clifford Calvin Olson, the son of Alfred E. and Julia Fredrickson Olson was born on September 6, 1924 on his family's farm near Newman Grove, Nebraska. He was baptized on June 14, 1925 at Looking Glass Methodist Church by Rev. Otto Chillberg, and confirmed on July 31, 1938 at Looking Glass Methodist Church by Rev. L. A. Indlecoffer. Clifford attended Platte County School District #63 and graduated from Newman Grove High School in May of 1942. He was a member of the Looking Glass Methodist Church where he was active in the youth fellowship and served as a part-time pianist. He attended the Agriculture Short Course at the University of Nebraska the winter of 1946.

On June 20, 1948 Clifford was united in marriage to Dorothy Gustafson at the Salem Lutheran Church, rural St. Edward. They farmed and raised their three children Annetta, Darla and Calvin south of Newman Grove. In 1948 Clifford joined the Salem Lutheran Church served on the Church Board for several years, many of which he held the position of secretary. He was active in the Lutheran Brotherhood and served as their pianist. Clifford and Dorothy became member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove in 1996. In April of 2003, following 55 years on the farm, Clifford and Dorothy moved into Albion.

Clifford passed away Monday morning, April 16, 2007 at the Boone County Health Center in Albion following an apparent heart attack. He was 82 years of age. Clifford was a loving and caring husband and father, grandpa and great-grandpa. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Surviving Clifford is his wife Dorothy of Albion; 2 daughters Annetta Gallant & husband Jim of Scribner, NE; Darla Westmore & husband Charlie of Ogallala, NE; 1 son Calvin of Columbus, NE; 2 granddaughters Victoria Kohaut & husband Joe of Omaha, NE; Elizabeth McDonald & husband Daniel of Perry, FL; 2 grandsons Craig Westmore of Lincoln, NE. and Caleb Westmore of Greeley, CO; 2 great grandchildren Jackson Kohout and Caroline McDonald; one sister Elaine Peterson of York, NE; Sisters-in-law: Maurine Olson of Newman Grove; Katherine Olson of Ord, NE; Margaret Olson of Salt Lake City, UT; Mary Olson of Neligh, NE.; Bonnie Olson of Bartlett, NE; Brothers-in-law Llewellyn Gustafson & wife Phyllis of Newman Grove; Sister-in-laws Delores Gustafson of Newman Grove; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Floyd, Harold, Ralph, Alonzo (Kelly) and Warren; one grandson Darren Westmore; and brother-in-law Buddy Gustafson.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2007 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove with Rev. Dave Lapka officiating. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery, rural Newman Grove.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove. Arrangements are with Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
