Clara R. Kamphaus, 89, of Elgin, NE, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at her daughter's home in Fredericksburg, TX.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, NE with Fr. John Norman and Deacon Dennis Wiehn officiating. Burial will follow at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Elgin, NE. Visitation will be on Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the church with a 7:00 p.m. Wake Service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Elgin Community Center or St. Boniface Catholic Church.
Levander Funeral Home of Elgin, NE is in charge of the arrangements.
Clara (Hinrichsen) Kamphaus was born on August 5, 1933, in Bliss, NE (an old rural community at the Wheeler and Holt County line) to William and Lydia (Hoerle) Hinrichsen. In the spring of 1944, the family moved southeast of Chambers, NE.
She married Frank Kamphaus on June 11, 1955, at St. Bonaventure Church in Raeville. They lived on a farm northeast of Raeville until Frank was drafted in the U.S. Navy. After basic training they lived in Alameda, California for two years where Clara worked at Fosters Freeze, a fast-food diner. They moved back to the Raeville area to farm until 1963 when they moved to Elgin. She worked at the bowling alley, then at FCX for 24 ½ years until retirement.
Clara was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church as well as the Christian Mothers Society. She loved quilting, playing cards, traveling, bowling, and homecare. In her later years, she became a football expert and won several of the pools in the Elgin Review.
Clara is survived by her daughters: Ramona (Al) Hagemeister of Phoenix, AZ and Ruth (Terry) Wornath of Fredericksburg, TX; granddaughter: Christa (Matthew) Czajka-Robinson of Central Point, OR; brother: Lawrence (Sharon) Hinrichsen of Plattsmouth, NE; sister-in-law: Ruth Hinrichsen as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were husband: Frank Kamphaus; parents: William and Lydia Hinrichsen; brother: Arthur Hinrichsen; and stepmother: Eleta (Mesner) Hinrichsen.
