Cathy J. Krings, 68, of Albion, NE passed away Sunday, September 24, 2023, at Boone County Health Center, Albion, NE.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 29, 2023, at St Michael's Catholic Church in Albion, NE with Fr. Mark Tomasiewicz, Deacon Paul Weeder, and Deacon James Schindel officiating. Burial will follow at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Albion, NE. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the church with a 7:00 p.m. wake service.

Cathleen June Krings, daughter of Melvin Soren and Estella Fern (Sanford) Rasmussen was born on September 29, 1954 at Genoa, Nebraska.  She was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church, Belgrade, NE.  Cathy attended Belgrade Public School, and graduated in 1972 from Cedar Rapids High School, Cedar Rapids, NE.

On November 9, 1974 Cathy was united in marriage to Larry Krings at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, NE.  The couple lived in Kearney for a couple years before settling in Albion, NE in 1976.  She worked at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan as a Nurse Aide and held several other roles there.  Cathy also worked as a Central Service Tech at the Boone County Health Center.

Cathy was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Albion, NE and the Altar Society there. Above all things Cathy loved her family. She also was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting hats and blankets on her loom. In her mid forties she was diagnosed with neuromyelitis optica (NMO) or Devic's disease which eventually required her to be in a wheelchair to get around. Ever optimistic, Cathy never let her affliction affect her positive outlook on life. She enjoyed visits from her friends and her children and looked forward to weekly video calls with her kids and their wives.

She is survived by her husband Larry of Albion, NE; two sons: Joseph (Courtney) Krings of Brooklyn, NY; Mike (Lisa) Krings of Lawrence, KS; mother-in-law Romain Krings of Albion, NE; brother Ralph Rasmussen of Ft. Collins, CO; three sisters: Fran Gillentine of Monroe, TN; Joyce Rasmussen of Winchester, KY; Brenda Fader of Northport, AL; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Mary Kay (John) Wlaschin of Columbus, NE; Gary (Leslie) Krings of Greenwood, NE; Deb (Ron) Hillberg of Yankton, SD; Cheryl (Tim) Prothman of David City, NE; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Wilma (Ed) Loughman and Myrna (Merle) Greek; father-in-law Paul Krings; sister-in-law Irene Rasmussen and brothers-in-law Ron Fader and Jerry Hurrell.
