Benjamin Joseph Welch, son of Ben and Helen (Kobza) Welch was born on April 22, 1952 in Pueblo, Colorado.  He grew up through grade school years there with his family and then moved to Nebraska.  He was ultimately drafted into the United States Army.  He served for two free bird years during the build up to the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged narrowly escaping battle deployment.  He then moved to California where he lived the lifestyle of love, peace, and freedom where he met Jean Hansen.  He later moved back to Nebraska, married and to this union his sons Joseph and Jeremy were born.

Ben lived in the Schuyler most his life and through the early 2000's was happily married to Claudia Peitzman.  He worked several factory jobs and was active in the Union and for the rights of the workers.  He took advantage of the college programs provided by the Government and went to college to learn how to weld.  Ben retired and moved to Albion, following a cancer diagnosis and has lived his last years there. His most recent pastime was playing video games to stay busy.  He was a heavy Dog lover who also enjoyed being outside, working in his yard.  Ben enjoyed spending time with his son fishing, camping, being outdoors, and especially the wilderness.  He also had a love for taking pictures, his favorite place to go was the Black Hills in South Dakota, he felt at peace there.

Ben is survived by his son Joe of Albion, NE; grandchildren: Keira Welch of Richland, NE; Ethan Welch of Connecticut; sisters: Ruth Beckuis of California; Helen Welch of Nebraska; along with other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jeremy Welch, granddaughter Peiton Welch, brother Richard Welch, and daughter-in-law Cori Bonham Liebig.
