Ann E. Borer, 95, formerly of Albion, NE passed away Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Brookstone Village Care Center in Omaha, NE.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2020 at St. Michael's Church in Albion, NE, with Rev. Stanley Schmit officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be 5:30-7:00pm Sunday at the church, with a 7:00 p.m. wake service.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to be directed to St. Michael's School in Albion NE. Levander Funeral Home of Albion, NE is in charge of arrangements.
Ann Elizabeth Borer departed this life February 27, 2020 on her 95 th birthday. Ann was born Feb. 27, 1925 in their family home in northern Boone County near Raeville, Nebraska. She grew up on the family farm, the sixth of seven children, born to Joseph and Anna Uphoff Pelster. She was married to Victor J Borer January 2, 1947 in Raeville, NE. Vic and Ann lived on their farm northwest of Albion NE for 40 years where they farmed and raised livestock. They raised eight children, Paul (Jody), Ted (Debbie), Tom (Barb), Mark (Pam), Pete (Bonnie) , Victoria Phillips (Mike), Beth Bartels (Mike) and Victor Jay (Kaye). They were members of St Michael's Catholic Church.
Ann was very involved in her church and community. Ann began teaching in Country Schools at age 17 immediately out of high school. Ann obtained her pilot's license and soloed in 1945 at the age of 20. She served as CCD Instructor for 23 yrs for high school kids, and also was a substitute teacher at St Michael's and substitute art teacher at Albion High School. Ann began and directed the St Michael's Grade school and Youth Group Choirs with her children providing the guitar accompaniment. Ann served as a church lector and Eucharistic Minister for many years; was a member and officer of the Altar Society and served on the financial committee for the Archdiocese Deanery Office. Ann enjoyed sewing church vestments and altar cloths.
Ann's love of art grew when she started attending workshops later in life to learn new mediums. She delighted giving her paintings as gifts to her family and friends. Ann started the Albion Art Club and served as its president. She enjoyed painting into her 90s when she resided at Brookstone Village in Omaha.
Ann was a lifetime member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary and served as a District President for the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She helped form and lead the VFW Junior Girl's Auxiliary Unit.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband Victor, her parents and her six siblings Margaret Schrage, Cyril Pelster, Marie Moser, Sally Meis, Florentine Vanderheiden, and Joe Pelster. She is survived by her eight children, twenty grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, brother in law Larry Borer and sister in laws Viola Pelster, Helen Borer and Carol Borer.
