Allan J. Kluthe

Allan J. Kluthe, 87, of Elgin, NE, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at his home in Elgin, NE.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 3, 2026, St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, NE, with Rev. Frank Baumert officiating. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at church with a 7:00 p.m. Wake Service.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Allan John Kluthe, son of Leander “Lee” George and Margaret Frances (Schneider) Kluthe, was born on June 8, 1939, at Elgin, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin. Allan attended St. Boniface School, graduating with the class of 1957. During high school, he worked hard on the family farm, spending his early mornings and evenings milking cows. Following graduation, Allan continued farming and raising livestock with his father.

On December 26, 1962, Allan was united in marriage to Doris Jean Thille at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin. The couple made their home near Elgin and were blessed with seven children: Paula, Carla, Leigh, Erick, David, Corey, and Allan Jr. “AJ.”

While continuing to stay active in the farming operation, he partnered with Jim Hausmann to start H&K Fertilizer Company, which Allan eventually became sole owner selling farm equipment, seed, feed, fertilizer, lawn and garden products. He also dedicated countless hours and miles as a longtime bus driver for generations of area students.

Allan was a lifelong member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and was active in his men’s circle. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus Council #2411, where he served as Grand Knight and attained the Fourth Degree. He also served as a District Deputy for the Knights of Columbus. In 2026, Allan was presented with the Roncalli Award at the Pope John Development Dinner in recognition of his many years of contributions and dedication to Pope John XXIII Central Catholic High School.

In his free time, Allan enjoyed dancing with his wife, Doris, reading, working puzzles, fishing, gardening, and tinkering around his yard. Above all, Allan took great pride in his children and grandchildren and enjoyed following their lives and accomplishments.

Allan is survived by his seven children: Paula (Scott) Heim of Harrisburg, SD; Carla (Pat) Quinn of Centennial, CO; Leigh Kluthe of Elgin, NE; Erick (Julie) Kluthe of Flower Mound, TX; David (Pamala) Kluthe of Roseville, CA; Corey (Betsy) Kluthe of Colorado Springs, CO; and AJ (Alison) Kluthe of Pilger, NE; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bernard (Diane) Kluthe of Elgin, NE; two sisters, Linda Schindler and Mary Bergstrom, both of Norfolk, NE; and one sister-in-law, Joan Wentworth of San Jose, CA.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Doris; his parents, Lee and Margaret Kluthe; one brother, Marvin Kluthe; two sisters, Geraline Barth-Damme and Margaret Ann Kluthe; his parents-in-law, Howard and Verona (Dietering) Thille; along with numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law.
