In Memory of
Michael Mielak

Michael Richard Mielak, the son of Michael F.
and Lillian (Krzycki) was born on July 11, 1930 at Columbus,
NE. He graduated from Columbus Scotus Schools.
He entered the United States Army on February 13, 1953 and
was honorably discharged on February 12, 1955. Following his service
time Mike started working for a trucking company traveling all over the
country.
On July 10, 1971 Michael was united in marriage to Virginia
E. Salak in Columbus, NE. They lived a short time in Columbus while
Mike worked for Loup Public Power and then Lindsay Manufacturing. He
was then transferred to Bakersfield, CA. In 1984 he began working for
Zimm’s Irrigation and then later retired after working for the State of
California. In 1992 they returned to Columbus. Following the death of
his wife in 1999 Mike moved to Albion.
Mike married Velma Kroger Anderson on February 15, 2003 in
Albion. They lived in Albion where Mike joined the American Legion Post
#162. He was also a very active member of the United Church of Christ,
a member of the Lake Ericson Association in Ericson, NE, a member of the
American Legion Post #84 of Columbus, and a member of the Boone County
Zoning and Adjustment Board. Mike owned a cabin at Lake Ericson, where
he loved to fish and take his pontoon boat out on the lake. He was a
lover of the outdoors, and working with his hands on just about
anything. He always enjoyed telling his grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, friends and family about his latest project.
Mike passed away on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at Bryan
LGH East in Lincoln, NE at 77 years of age.
He is survived by his wife Velma of Albion; daughter
Claudia Johnson & husband Don of Albion; 4 step-children: Melody Strom
and husband Jerry of North Liberty, Iowa; Dale R. Anderson and wife
Ramona of Aurora, CO; Teresa Anderson of Milwaukee, WI; Kirk Anderson
and wife Susan of Davenport, IA; 3 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren;
9 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Louise Wolf and Henrietta Czapla and
husband Ray all of Columbus, NE; along with many other relatives and
friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife
Virginia and his brother Marion Mielak.
Funeral Services will be at 9:00 a.m.
Saturday, November 10, 2007 at the United Church of Christ in Albion
with Rev. Mary Avidano officiating. Burial will be at the Columbus City
Cemetery in Columbus, NE with Military Rites conducted by the American
Legion Post #84 of Columbus. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 p.m. at
the Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Memorials are suggested to the Lake
Ericson Association.
